Foreign exchange (FX) fees on the Send Card

Your Send Card is a Visa card funded in US dollars (USD). When you buy something priced in another currency, the purchase is converted to USD, and a small foreign exchange (FX) fee is included in that converted amount.

No fee on US dollar purchases

Purchases priced in USD have no FX fee. This covers most US merchants and any international site that bills you in dollars. If the price is in USD, the amount charged to your card is exactly what you spent.

Fees on other currencies

Any purchase priced in a currency other than USD is converted at Visa's exchange rate, plus an FX fee. The fee is already built into the amount charged — there's no separate line item.

How the fee is applied

The fee is included in the exchange rate at the time of the purchase, so it shows up in the single amount charged rather than as a separate fee. Refunds are converted the same way.

Example: if you buy something for €20, it's converted to US dollars at the time of purchase, with a 1% fee included in the dollar amount that leaves your card.

How to check a conversion

You can compare what you were charged against Visa's exchange rate using Visa's exchange rate calculator (visa.com). The small difference between Visa's rate and the amount charged is the FX fee.

Good to know

  • Spending in USD avoids currency conversion entirely.

  • Adding your card to Apple Pay or Google Wallet doesn't change how conversion works.

  • The card is issued through our card partner, so you may see their name on some conversion details.
